Managing Partner
Carl Alphonse is the founder of Alphonse Latham LLP and a U.S. & Canadian immigration lawyer specializing in business and family immigration. Fluent in French, English, and Haitian Creole, he has nearly a decade of experience helping individuals and businesses navigate complex immigration processes. Carl has handled over 1,000 successful applications and appeared before various Canadian tribunals and courts. A member of the New York and Ontario bars and a recognized Foreign Legal Consultant in Ontario, Carl is passionate about community service and education. He serves as Executive Secretary of the Rotary Club of Brampton and Secretary for the AILA Canada Chapter, while regularly conducting legal education and media outreach to support clients and communities.
Lavinia Latham
Partner
Lavinia Latham is an accomplished employment and human rights lawyer and partner of Alphonse Latham LLP. She has represented clients before major courts and tribunals across Ontario and Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Lavinia has led impactful initiatives, such as co-developing the Anti-Racist Leadership course for the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario, and conducted over 100 equity and human rights workshops. Beyond her legal work, Lavinia has appeared in television shows like Suits and commercials for major brands. She also shares her expertise through two YouTube channels, Fine Natural Hair ROCKS and Lavinia Latham JD, reaching over 13,000 subscribers.
Urvassee Ramful

Urvassee Ramful is a lawyer at Alphonse Latham LLP. She supports the firm’s work in immigration, employment law, human rights, workplace investigations, and corporate training. Fluent in both French and English, and skilled in legal research, Urvassee is passionate about helping individuals and organizations navigate complex legal issues with clarity and confidence. She is committed to delivering practical, client-centered solutions while advancing equity and inclusion through her work. Beyond her professional commitments, Urvassee enjoys exploring diverse cultures through travel and discovering new culinary adventures.
Kris-Andre Smith
ARTICLING STUDENT
Kris-Andre Smith is a current articling student at Alphonse Latham LLP. His legal interests include entertainment and sports law, intellectual property, employment, and human rights litigation. During his time in law school, Kris-Andre was involved in leadership and advocacy, serving as Cultural Outreach Director and Social Director for the Osgoode Black Law Students’ Association chapter.
Kris-Andre has also contributed to access to justice initiatives, including his work with the Scarborough Community Legal Aid Clinic, where he sits on the board of directors. Recently, Kris-Andre completed an internship in South Africa, assisting with constitutional matters and community-focused housing cases. In addition to his legal pursuits, Kris-Andre brings entrepreneurial and organizational experience, having managed large-scale events in the music industry and ventures in the business and wellness sectors.
Jennica Merzier
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Jennica Merzier is an Executive Assistant at Alphonse Latham LLP, where she plays a key role in ensuring the firm’s administrative operations run smoothly and efficiently. With a strong foundation in administrative support and several years of customer service experience, Jennica brings both professionalism and adaptability to her work.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. Jennica’s impressive quadrilingual communication skills allow her to connect seamlessly across various cultures and clients.
